Take the Lead

Yesterday I took my second milonga class. It may have well been my first. I had taken milonga once about a year ago, when I was first learning tango and hadn't retained much. After class, a south Asian woman encouraged everyone to go out dancing that evening. Pierre Dulaine was hosting a milonga, she said. From eight o'clock. She told everyone in the class.

The name sounded familiar, and as I was taking the elevator back down to the street level, I played it in my head. When I reached the subway, I had it. I had watched Take the Lead, based on Dulaine's experiences as a dance teacher on my flight back from Ethiopia. My friend asked if I were interested in dancing that night. Yes, I said. I wanted to meet Antonio Banderas. She laughed.
